WWE’s latest round of NXT roster cuts has sparked plenty of conversation among fans, but according to insiders, the reasoning wasn’t financial.
Talent Evaluation, Not Budget
Bryan Alvarez reported that the cuts were made primarily as part of WWE’s ongoing talent evaluation process, rather than budgetary concerns. He explained that this type of trimming “happens pretty frequently” as WWE assesses which developmental stars are ready to move forward and which aren’t.
Who Was Released
The list of names includes Tyra Mae Steele, Carlee Bright, Sirena Linton, Tyson DuPont, Tyriek Igwe, Chris Island, Malik Blade, Trill London, Andre Chase, and Luca Crucifino. All of them will be under 30‑day non‑compete clauses, expiring May 24.
Behind the Decisions
Dave Meltzer noted that Steele — better known as Olympic gold medalist Tamyra Mensah‑Stock — had been pushed after winning the LFG series but failed to impress once on the roster. Bright and Linton were cut just as their season of LFG was starting, where they were competing for an NXT TV push. Interestingly, Bright had also just appeared in a commercial alongside Rhea Ripley.
Final Thought
While roster cuts are always tough, WWE’s developmental system is built on constant evaluation. For fans, it’s a reminder that NXT is as much about testing potential as it is about showcasing talent. The door isn’t closed forever — many wrestlers have bounced back stronger after setbacks.
